    ABOUT KEVIN

Kevin Blanchard was born and raised in Roanoke, VA, and joined the U.S. Marines in 2001 as a Combat Engineer. During deployment in Iraq in 2005, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) hit Blanchard and resulted in a left leg amputation and severe damage to his other leg. Blanchard spent the next 13 months in the hospital, including 9 months in a wheelchair, and undergoing 33 surgeries before being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps. After the military, Blanchard studied at The George Washington University and Catholic University and worked for several Veteran Service Organizations. Blanchard is now a full-time personal trainer in Charlottesville, VA and lives in Crozet, VA with his wife Myra, their son Beau, and 185lb American Mastiff named Socrates.

Each new Conquering Kili class accepts the challenge to embark for the summit, a walk that represents the miles that many African women journey on a daily basis to fetch water for their families. While training for the climb, each team member works to raise funds and transform communities through the gift of clean water.
