Michael co-founded Quantitative Investment Management in 2000.  Prior to QIM, Michael worked as an actuarial consultant for four years before taking a job at Capital One as an analyst.  Michael left Capital One in 2000 to co-found QIM.  Michael and his business partner relocated from New York City to Charlottesville, VA in 2001.  Michael currently is the President and Chief Risk Officer at QIM.  He also oversees the Marketing and Investor Relations departments at QIM.

Michael has been active in the non-profit world for many years.  He and wife, Ellen, founded The PBJ Fund in 2009.  The mission of The PBJ Fund was to support programs within the Charlottesville community that empower children and/or families through culinary and nutritional education and help improve access to affordable, healthful food for under-resourced community members. Michael has also served on several non-profit boards in Charlottesville over the years.

Michael’s wife, Ellen, served on the Boys and Girls Club of Central Virginia for many years alongside Diane Long, Chris Long’s mother.  It was through Howie and Diane that Michael and Ellen first met Chris Long.  Michael and Ellen have been avid supporters of Waterboys since Chris founded his charity in 2015.  Michael told Chris a few years ago that he wanted to Conquer Kili with Waterboys and is excited to be included on the trip this February.

Michael holds a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Statistics from the University of Virginia. He has been married to his wonderful wife, Ellen, for 23 years and they have four children, Meghan, Maya, Laney and Lance. Michael enjoys spending time with his family, skiing, running, golfing, and hanging out at their beach house in the Outer Banks in his free time. More recently, Michael also enjoys hiking with a 40 pound vest!

Each new Conquering Kili class accepts the challenge to embark for the summit, a walk that represents the miles that many African women journey on a daily basis to fetch water for their families. While training for the climb, each team member works to raise funds and transform communities through the gift of clean water.
