Progress to Goal
Founded by Milwaukee Bucks point guard Malcolm Brogdon, Hoops2O recruits players from across the NBA to raise funds and awareness for clean water initiatives in East Africa. Whether they’re making buckets on the court or fighting for clean water access off of it, these players give it every ounce.
Why Water Matters
Water scarcity limits millions of people in ways you might not imagine.
Women often bear the burden of water retrieval. Reducing the distance to a water source by just 15 minutes results in a 12% increase in girls’ school attendance.
Water retrieval is a significant burden. Access to a clean water source frees time to generate income.
With dependable access to ample drinking water, families can afford to farm — limiting food scarcity and providing income generating opportunities.
Water-related diseases currently cause nearly 1 in 5 deaths of children under 5 years old. It doesn’t have to be this way.
Each well costs $45,000 to install, and just one can serve up to 7,500 people. That’s just $6 per person. Six dollars can send a child to school, restore economic independence, or even save a life.
Bigger Than Ball
World Water Day is a global day of awareness for the World’s water crisis. Held annually on March 22, this day marks an opportunity to highlight the scarcity of clean water in developing and developed countries. For the next twelve days, the athletes of Waterboys and Hoops2O unite under the idea that It’s Bigger than Ball. It doesn’t matter what arena you play in, if it’s under warm lights or a cold sky, under the thunder of cleats on turf or the sound of rubber on the court. In this game, we have the same mission: providing water to 1 million people in need. Our fight is to ensure communities receive this life-saving resource. Because everyone has a right to clean water. Your generosity brings us one drop closer to our five well goal and shows the world...it’s Bigger than Ball!Support the Team
Running point for Hoops2O, Malcolm leads a team of playmakers from around the league toward a season-long goal far greater than raising a championship banner. With the support of fans like you, they’re raising $225,000 to fund five wells for communities in desperate need of clean, accessible drinking water. Now that’s something to cheer for.
Waterboys is honored to have Malcolm as the NBA founder of the Hoops2O program. His accomplishments on and off the court demonstrate a purposeful approach to life, as well as a dedication to helping those in need.
