About the Group

John M. Horack is the inaugural holder of the Neil A. Armstrong Chair in Aerospace Policy at The Ohio State University, and is the Senior Associate Dean of the College of Engineering. He is a Full Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, as well as in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs.

Dr. Horack has enjoyed a 30+ year career in aerospace, including 17 years at NASA where his work ranged from fundamental research in high-energy Astrophysics, to leading management and executive roles at the Marshal Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. He was a finalist for the NASA Astronaut Candidate Program in 1988, and holds a bachelors degree in Physics and Astronomy from Northwestern University, along with MS and Ph.D. degrees in Astrophysics from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Horack’s contributions to the aviation and space exploration accomplishments of the United States are commemorated through his inclusion in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum’s Wall of Honor, in Washington, DC.
