Cam is Running the 2023 TCS NYC Marathon!
Hello beautiful people,
I am beyond excited and humbled to announce that this November, I will be running the 2023 TCS NYC Marathon on behalf of the Waterboys Young Professionals Committee (YPC)!
WHO: The Waterboys YPC aims to raise awareness and funds to provide clean water to communities in need across East Africa. Formed in 2019, the YPC brings together people from diverse backgrounds and industries to support the Waterboys Organization and the fight against the global water crisis. According to UNICEF, 56 million people lack access to safe drinking water.
WHAT: I have set a fundraising goal of $5,000 to raise both awareness and funds to help provide clean, accessible drinking water to communities in need throughout East Africa. While this may seem like a monumental task—and it is—every little bit counts! Together, we have the opportunity to help improve thousands of lives by providing clean water solutions so they can focus on other facets of life, such as agriculture and education, with the hope of economic advancement and prosperity.
WHY: In the fall of 2018, I was fortunate enough to go on an African Safari with my family. Little did I know that this trip would soon change not only my perspective but my life. While en route to some of the major game preserves in East Africa, I saw firsthand not only the beauty of the landscape and people but the hardship that women face in retrieving water for their families and livestock. According to Missions Box, women walk 3.7 miles daily to haul 40 lbs of water to their families. These water resources are often compromised and shared with local wildlife in East Africa.
Once my trip concluded and I returned to my New York City apartment, I broke down in tears when I turned on the kitchen faucet and quickly filled a glass of cold water to quench my thirst. It shook me to my core that, simply because of where I reside, I get to enjoy clean, cold water, while people on the other side of the Atlantic have to work twice as hard to access the same human necessity. From that day on, I felt compelled to make an impact and fight against this global water crisis. I’ve been helping spread awareness and fundraising on behalf of Waterboys YPC ever since.
Although there are a plethora of great charitable causes to support, Waterboys is one I care deeply about, and I am excited to reach my fundraising goal with your help and consideration. God bless — water is life!
